We provide thoughtful amenities such as dog towels, outdoor hot water taps for a quick rinse, and complimentary doggy treats—perfect for pampering your pets upon your return from the day’s adventures.

A Community of Pet Lovers:
While we aren’t dog owners ourselves (we have a cat who reigns supreme), we cherish the bond our friends share with their pets and the sheer joy it brings them. This insight drives our commitment to maintaining a pet-friendly environment where memorable moments await at every corner.

Seamless Experience for All:

Exploring Minchinhampton Common: A Jewel in the Heart of the Cotswolds

We find ourselves over at Minchinhampton Common quite regularly on a Sunday after visiting the Ragged Cot at Minchinhampton for a Sunday lunch. Dropping into the Jolly Nice farm shop on the way back is also a compulsory activity, particularly for the olive oil, cracklebean eggs and biscotti. Minchinhampton Common, nestled in the stunning Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Gloucestershire, is a vast, open landscape that epitomizes the serene and unspoiled charm of the English countryside. This ancient common land, managed by the National Trust, spreads across 600 acres of rolling hills, lush grasslands, and rugged terrain, offering panoramic views that captivate the heart and soothe the soul. The common is a tapestry of rich biodiversity, home to rare plants and wildlife, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts and conservationists alike. It’s crisscrossed by a network of footpaths and bridleways, inviting visitors to explore its expansive beauty on foot, horseback, or bike. The area is dotted with ancient monuments and Neolithic burial mounds, silently narrating tales of its millennia-old history and the lives of those who roamed these lands long before us. Golfers, too, are drawn to the common, where one of England’s oldest golf clubs offers a unique playing experience amidst this breathtaking natural setting. The golf course, harmoniously integrated into the landscape, provides an additional layer of human interaction with the land, blending sport with the tranquil beauty of the Cotswolds. Minchinhampton Common is not just a place of natural beauty and recreational opportunity; it is a living example of the balance between conservation and traditional land use. It serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving natural landscapes, not just for their ecological value but also for their historical significance and their role in community life. Visiting Minchinhampton Common offers a momentary retreat into nature’s embrace, away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. It’s a place where the past and present merge, offering a peaceful sanctuary and a reminder of the enduring beauty of the English countryside. Stroud probably isn’t the most attractive town in the Cotswold but there are some incredible views of the town from the common as you drive through. We can also recommend the Bear Pub but great food!

Miserden Estate

Miserden Walks We have an affection for Miserden. during the second lockdown we lived in Duntisbourne Leer and our go to place for some fresh air and tranquility was the Miserden estate. It is a little bit of a further trek but you’ll love it – and you can end your circular walk with some refreshment at the Carpenters Arms. The Carpenters did a fantastic takeaway in the days of not being able to sit in the pub and then post lockdown we’ve had some great Sunday lunches there plus great entertainment in the pub garden where you’ll often find live music on a weekend in the warmer months. Miserden is a starting point for some serious walks around the area but also has a great circular walk taking from the pub and down the hill towards the deer park. The shorter walk is a great way to walk off a Sunday lunch and a few craft beers! Tickets to visit the garden can be booked from their website – check the opening as times and days are seasonal. Be sure to try out the Glasshouse cafe and admire the complex engineering that goes into the mechanisms required to open the windows! The recently refurbished glasshouse dates back to the 1920s and would have been used to supply fruit and veg to the house and to the village in the past.
Hiking

Thames Path National Trail

Thames Path National Trail You may remember the programme by Tony Robinson called the Great River where he followed the Thames from its source in The Cotswolds through to our Capital. Start: source of the Thames, Cotswolds End: Woolwich, London Length: 185 miles (298 km) There is a dispute as to where the actual source of the Thames actually is. Thames Head is a group of seasonal springs that appear near the village of Coates. One or more of these springs are traditionally identified as the source of the Thames. What is easier to find is the start of the path for the national trail which is just the road from Cotswold Mill and a hundred yards or so down the road towards Kemble. The Thames Path is a long distance walking trail, following England’s best known river for 185.2miles (298 km) as it meanders from its source in the Cotswolds through several rural counties and on into the heart of London. On its way the Trail passes peaceful water meadows rich in wildlife, historic towns and cities and many lovely villages, finishing in Woolwich just a few miles from the sea. The best months to visit are spring through to the end of autumn. If you’re interested in wildlife there are always a range of birds present on and around the river but they’re at their most active and visible during April and May whilst establishing territories and finding mates. If you’re keen on wildflowers, then April to September is the time to visit, and if insects such as butterflies, damselflies and dragonflies are the things you’d most like to see choose June to September.
