Mallard on Waters Edge Lake

Nestled amidst the serene beauty of the Cotswold Water Park, Mallard, formerly known as Waters Edge, offers a tranquil escape that marries the charm of rustic living with modern luxury. This rebranded gem, now named after the most popular waterfowl gracing its lake, invites you into a storybook setting where nature meets comfort in an exquisite symphony.

Imagine stepping into a world where each day begins with the gentle lapping of waves and the soft chorus of birdsong. Mallard, with its contemporary-styled, luxury holiday homes, sits gracefully along the 28-acre lake, offering views that seem borrowed from a painter’s canvas. Its large decking areas extend over the water, offering the illusion of floating just inches above the surface, where the reflection of the sky meets the tranquil waters.

The interior of Mallard is a testament to thoughtful design and comfort, featuring a spacious living/kitchen/dining area that becomes the heart of memories made with family and friends. It’s a place where laughter fills the air, and the warmth of the underfloor heating matches the warmth of gathered souls. Each bedroom, luxuriously appointed with en-suite bathrooms, offers a sanctuary of rest, with the master suite opening up to a private lakeside balcony that invites quiet contemplation or intimate conversations under the stars.

Full Description

Beyond the comforts of Mallard, the Cotswolds opens up a treasure trove of experiences. From water sports and fishing to leisurely walks and nature trails, the immediate area around South Cerney and Cerney Wick offers an abundance of activities. Imagine mornings spent paddling on the lake, afternoons exploring the quaint villages and their country pubs, and evenings soaking in the hot tub, the day’s adventures melting away as the sun sets over the water.

The Cotswold Water Park, England’s largest wetlands nature reserve, is not just a backdrop for Mallard but a playground for the adventurous and a sanctuary for those seeking peace. It’s where you can indulge in the simple pleasure of a coffee and cake by the fire at Rox (formerly South Cerney Outdoor), or treat your taste buds to Asian Fusion cuisine at a nearby Waterside kitchen or the Asha’s at the Crown in Cerney Wick, each moment enriched by the scenic beauty and the welcoming community spirit.

Mallard is more than just a place to stay; it’s an invitation to experience a different pace of life, where each moment is savored, and every view tells a story. It’s a base for exploring the Cotswolds, from the historic charm of Cirencester to the natural beauty of the surrounding villages and landscapes, each offering its unique allure.

This reimagined retreat, with its blend of luxury, comfort, and breathtaking natural beauty, invites you to create stories of your own. Our favourite things to do

Grab a coffee and cake at ...

The Lodge at Lake 12

The lodge at lake 12 is one of our favourite stopping off points at the end (or even the start) of a busy day on the lake. I can certainly vouch for their oat milk flat white and flapjacks having had them numerous times whilst getting our lodges ready for guests. The log fire in the cafe was something of a magnet during a cold winter. The lodge has only been around for a couple of years – slightly delayed during COVID but now a regular hive of activity. It has both indoor and outdoor seating and is dog friendly inside and out. The seating outside provide some great views across their lake and there is nothing quite like seeing those colourful sails billowing out across the lake. The lodge has great coffee, friendly staff and serves a variety of snacks, cakes and sandwiches. They now also provide a street food menu which is worth trying – basically its different foods from around the world There is plenty of parking and you will find an eclectic group of customers there from locals, dog walkers, cyclists, water sport enthusiasts and many, many more.,

Asha’s Indian Kitchen at the Crown in Cerney Wick

The Crown at Cerney Wick ‘Asha’ meaning ‘Hope’ and ‘Prospect’are located at the Crown in Cerney Wick, just a mile or so from our homes on Waters Edge. Asha are part of the Relish group that have a number of restaurants and cafes in the area including the Waterside Kitchen, Relish cafe and the Old Prison at Northleach. Asha’s is one of our favourite places to eat with their menus being a great mix of classic and contemporary Indian food so generally something for everyone. Staff are always friendly and extremely helpful – the restaurant tends to get very busy so booking is always a good idea! Details can be found here

House Rules

We try to flexible and not to put too many constraints on our guests but we are also committed to looking after our homes.

We welcome up to 2 pets in Waters Edge but talk to us about your plans. Always let us know if you plan to bring pets (there is a small charge per pet) as we need to factor it into our cleans. We do not allow pets into the bedrooms and particularly onto beds. We recognise that keeping pets off the furniture is a challenge so you will find throws available to use please

No parties, hen nights or stag nights – this really isn’t the place for loud parties as many of the homes on this lake are occupied by year round residents. Unfortunately due to a number of past experiences we do not allow all male occupancy of our homes. Sorry guys!

And that’s really it – tell us about breakages so that we can replace where necessary. Larger damage and specialist cleaning we will need to discuss with you if necessary.

We just ask that you treat our home with respect and that you consider our neighbours when you are on the decking in particular as sound does travel a lot further over water.

A wonderful and cozy place, a nice spacious house and a view of the lake from the hot tub and the upper balcony - something wonderful. easy operation of the heating system and the entire house in general. A large number of kitchen items and, above all, board games which I did not expect there.

Stayed for my birthday weekend with family and friends and my dog. Great location with beautiful surroundings. House was perfect for what we wanted and a lovely chocolate cake awaited. We enjoyed the games provided to.
I would certainly recommend this property and may return in the future.

Amazing house! Lovely weekend stay for 5 uni friends. Lots of do but as it was winter time we took advantage of the hot tub and chilled out inside. Lovely walk on the Saturday with a lovely local pub close by.
The lake is gated and has residence on as well as rentals.
Would 100% come back.
